In 2030, these will be required skillsets for all new employees
20 years ago, it would have been absurd for certain skillsets to be required for entry level employees.
Today, it’s required for almost any new job (especially white collar office jobs) for an employee to have basic computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office, use an email client, be proficient with the internet, etc etc.
In the next 20 years, I believe the following skillsets will be required for new employees (besides all of the aforementioned items, all of which will automatically be assumed someone is competent in)
- Ability to search for someone/some product/some item on social media
Why? Basic research. Conduct background checks. Sales leads and networking
- Ability to post on social media
Will soon be mandatory for everyone in customer service (answer questions via social media) and marketing (every marketing position will require the experience/ability to integrate social into the marketing mix)
- Basic HTML
Nothing crazy, but the basics such as bolding, italics, underlining and so fourth. Everything will be moved to web based technologies. The ability to understand the basics of formatting text on the web will be the same as the requirements to know how to format text in Microsoft word.
- Understanding of basic web “lingo”
Understanding the difference of SEO/SEM, pageviews vs unique visitors and so fourth. These will be the new ROI metrics in 20 years. Your understanding of the basic terms will be what allows for further detailed analysis.
And who will be leading the forefront in teaching our next generation these skills? Hopefully the education system.
What do you think will be a required skill in 20 years?
