Consulting
I consult with startups, small businesses and large companies.
I’ve been involved in the web world since 1995. I’ve been developing websites since 1995. I’ve been involved with creating internet companies since 1996. I’ve been an active contributor to online communities since 1996. I’ve been involved with SEO since 1996. I remember the days when you were optimizing a website for Infoseek and Altavista – not Google. I was one of the first advertisers on GoTo.com (which became Overture, which became Yahoo! Search Marketing) – I remember the day they sent me a postcard for a 50 dollar advertising credit (and bids started at $.01 and paying more than $.50 a click was unheard of!) I remember when eAds and their 5 cents cpc offer for website publishers was the best deal in town.
I’ve watched the web grow. I watched when having a website or email address was a “neat little thing to have”. I watched when having a website became an essential part of a business. I watched when online marketing went from being “nice to have” to where not being listed on google is considered a serious competitive disadvantage. I was one of the first members of Facebook (2004 – my college, Boston University, was one of the first ten schools on facebook. I joined almost immediately).
I help web startups discover their main goals and mission. I advise on all aspects of a startup’s growth – from its first product, to its first marketing/PR plan, to helping raise capital and mature as a business. I normally join a startup as their first or second member of their advisory board.
I help small, established businesses figure out the web. I figure out what they need and don’t need. Confused if having a facebook or twitter presence is essential? Confused about SEO? Confused about the real meaning of a company website? I understand that there is no one size fits all answer for any of these questions – especially for a small company. I evaluate the market, determine the business need and then create and execute a plan that is designed to maximize company resources and the web. I normally work on a retainer for these clients.
For large companies, I serve as an executive level SEO and Social Media advisor. I help make sense of SEO and Social Media and help create a strategic plan. I serve as a social media and SEO confidant to high level managers. “No question is too dumb”. I help simplify everything to enable managers to make smart, strategic business decisions on a company’s overall web strategy. I normally work on a retained basis with these clients.
